Title                Quality Control Manager

Reports to        Plant Manager


Job summary

Quality Control Manager supervises the quality control staff to ensure the department meets its responsibilities in handling all product specifications without mistakes.  QC Manager develops and implements plans and procedures for meeting the food safety goals of the company in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

Summary of essential job functions

  1. Manage and supervise personnel in quality control department.
  2. Act as liaison between company and USDA inspectors.
  3. Direct and coordinate food safety functions within company policies and procedures.
  4. Monitor and audit, making adjustments as necessary, for food safety.
  5. Ensure compliance with all company and regulatory product quality standards, sanitation standards, food safety standards, employee safety and environmental standards.
  6. Works closely with management and production personnel on food safety problems recommending changes to improve food safety policies, procedures, and standards.
  7. Operate within standard operating procedures (SOPs), HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) and Job Safety Analysis (JSAs).
  8. Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  9. Foster a well-trained and motivated staff.
  10. Responsible for establishing all department work schedules.
  11. Conduct employee performance reviews.
  12. Schedule and conduct department meetings.
  13. Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  1. Advanced reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required.
  2. Bachelor's or Master's Degree 
  3. Computer skills including the use of spreadsheet and word processing programs.
  4. Interpersonal skills, motivational skills, coaching and mentoring skills.
  5. Able to plan, lead, organize and control quality control activities.
  6. Knowledge of HACCP and BRC (British Retail Consortium) standards.


Working Conditions

Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Work may involve lifting of materials and product up to 25 pounds. Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; steel-toed work boots, hardhats, safety glasses, hairnets, beard nets (if applicable), and smocks. Cell phones and jewelry are not permitted on the factory floor.
